Gary Kirsten Foundation players on the rise

Lilitha Baku-Baku, Bongile Mfunelwa, Sinelethe Yaso, Avile Jokazi, Sinenjabulo Gogwana and Njabulo Gogwana will represent Western Province U13 U15, U16 and U19 respectively at the national tournaments which take place at the end of the year. These players have shown strong work ethic and improvement over the past 3 years working with the coaches from the Gary Kirsten Foundation in Khayelitsha.

Lilitha is a passionate player and always very willing to learn. “The support from her family has been key to her achievement, and with continued commitment to the game I see her going far” said Sivuyile Mfunelwa, Head Coach of the GKF

Bongile’s ability with the bat and behind the stumps have earned him well deserved recognition. According to coach Sivuyile “His confident nature and willingness to learn new skills is a great strength of his game”. He continues, “He is very calm at the crease and possesses shots on both front and back foot.”

Sinelethe and Sinenjabulo are right arm fast bowlers, very committed to determined, both enjoying batting and fielding as well. Sinenjabulo started playing with the Foundation in 2015, being selected for Western Province U16 in 2016.

Yindiswa is a natural athlete (switched from soft ball to cricket) and fast learner with impressive power and hand speed. In a year of playing with GKF she achieved provincial colours, and shows great potential.

Avile is a right handed opening batsman who began playing cricket for the first time at Siphamandla High School in 2016 and through his commitment has improved his skills exponentially over the past two seasons. “His pull shot and drives are a feature of his play” Sivuyile beams, “He is also a good fielder in all positions.”

These players have been consistent in their attendances at the GKF High Performance practices and these selections are a reward for their dedication and a testimony for all of what can be achieved from humble beginnings.

We wish them all the best in their preparation for the tours and will be keeping updates on them and others players coming through the ranks in the months to follow.
